What is a Seamworld?  ::

Our Seamworld is known (to us) as “Earth.”  It consists of infinite alternate realities, separated by innumerable differing details caused by anything, from this morning’s decision by a single child to have cereal for breakfast instead of toaster-waffles, to the seemingly innocuous lack of an impacting meteor 65 million years ago.  Some realities are very much like ours, but some have no humans, and some have other sorts of people instead of humans.  Some versions of Earth are damaged beyond inhabitation, but a few have wonderful inhabitants, like the friendly and clever land-squid.  Some realities contain an abundance of intelligent life.  Some even have magic.  Every reality is different.  Granted, some realities are more remarkable than others.  Those of great significance; those more substantially different than the rest; those most noteworthy of departures, stand out from the rest of the realities like brightly burning stars within a deep and foggy nebula.  These major-worlds are much easier to locate,  assuming you’re out to find them.

The Seamworld gets its name from the intricate system of naturally-occurring sub-spectral veins of energy, commonly called “seams,” that are spread in a sprawling web over the face of the planet.  These seams exist in every reality simultaneously, invisible to the naked eye, spidering out from the top of the world and connecting all of these realities to one another.  As such, these seams are able to serve as transit between realities.  Though the seams have shifted slightly with the ever-changing face of the planet, Earth developed its initial seams at approximately the same time that it developed its first recognizable land-masses and life, perhaps between 3.8 and 4.2 billion years ago.

Most of the stories in the Seamworlds section take place in their own singular reality, except for Celia’s story (because she’s special, as she’s prone to tell you), and, though some stories may appear to take place in our very own reality, none of them actually do.  Our world is yours to explore.  Most of these stories have quite a bit to do with the nature of the Seamworld in one way or another, but not all of them.  Often, it’s more fun when only a few people are aware of the true nature of their world.

In short, the Seamworld is a place where imagination and dreaming and the very most real of reality all come together in a way that makes nearly anything seem very likely indeed.  This allows the possible to mix with the seemingly impossible, occasionally bleeding together, as it were, at the seams.
