The Story of 8 is an expansive and often-whimsical science-fiction fairy-tale (or Future-Fantasy) in three parts.

On the surface, this is the story of Jake Molbon (a somewhat-successful entrepreneur, meticulous utensil-smith, and skeptical curmudgeon) and Ron Tertcham (a relatively-unsuccessful interior designer, vibrant ex-circus-performer, and intrepid socialite), two long-time best friends, and their discovery of why that friendship has endured after they’ve grown so far apart.  They take the company of a puzzling robot, an amnesiac alien explorer, and other new allies as they get pulled ever deeper into the mysteries that surround an ancient secret society and an artifact of invaluable power.

However, this is also the story of a singular man who, being the last of his race, has fallen victim to unthinkably horrible circumstances and goes to the greatest lengths imaginable to make things right for his people.  Amassing a subtle empire of unsuspecting followers, this man and his most trusted allies attempt to manipulate primal galactic conditions to provide his race a second chance.  In doing so, he becomes everything he never wanted to be.

Beneath the surface, the Story of 8 is about disregarding the powers-that-be, freeing the individual, and all the responsibility those actions entail.  Power corrupts, after all, even with the best of intentions.  This is also, and importantly, a story of finding one’s place in the world, regardless of power or destiny, and is a tale of self-discovery under the most momentous of circumstances.

On a more interesting note, The Story of 8 has fantastic flying cars, stupendous space-chases, curious robotic companions, dangerous assassins, mysterious psychics, a bevy of eccentric alien allies, touches of awkwardly heartwarming romance, and (most importantly) a thoroughly developed galaxy, brimming with life and adventure, bearing intricacy and depth to rival any other.

The year is 2184, but nothing ever really changes...  does it?
